Faust Temple Church Of God In Christ Inc.
Dr. Clarence Lee Jones, Sr.
Dr. Clarence L. Jones Sr., a former native of Tampa, Florida is the son of Johnny and Mildred Jones and brother to Johnny Jones Jr. and Bessie Jones Bandy.
Dr. Jones graduated from Middleton Senior High School in 1965 with a 4-year scholarship to Florida A&M University from Future Farmers of America. Instead of going off to college, Dr. Jones enrolled at the Manpower Development Center. After completing the one-year course, he received a building contractor’s license.
In November 1966, Dr. Jones was drafted into the US Army for three years. In 1967, he married Lula Lockett and they had three sons, Clarence Jr., Michael and Ronald Jones. His last duty station was at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. There he enrolled at the University of Texas in a one-year business and management course.
After leaving the Army he and his family returned to Tampa where he started working for Thatcher Glass Manufacturing Company and enrolled at Tampa College in business administration. Dr. Jones was one of the first black supervisors for the company. While working for Thatcher Glass, he used his contractor experience in buying and remodeling to purchase and restore old houses. In addition to doing that, he purchased and operated a laundromat and cleaning service with his wife and sons managing them. In 1990, his job transferred him to Jacksonville, Florida as a supervisor for Anchor Hocking Manufacturing Company.
Making Jacksonville his home he joined Faust Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC) where Elder Earnest Clifton Taylor was pastor and after him Bishop Rushie Lee Dixon. He and his family served faithfully at Faust Temple where he pursued the ministerial call on his life. For many years Dr. Jones served under Bishop Dixon’s leadership in different ministries at the church. He served as a Deacon, Minister and as an Elder. He was ordained as an Elder by Bishop Dixon in March 2005. He also served as Bishop Dixon’s Aid, Sunday School Superintendent, District Leader and Out Reach Ministry Leader.
In 1994, he was stricken with a virus that paralyzed him and placed him in the intensive care unit for three months where he received lifesaving treatment and rehabilitation. Special prayer was going up for him by the Saints in many churches including the church in Tampa where his mother and sister were members. God worked a miracle in his life and delivered him after six months of intense prayer and faith by his wife, family and the Saints of God.
While at home recovering from his illness, he furthered his religious studies with Rod Parsley and John Hager Ministries, Charles Mason Seminary, Truthful Living Bible College and Florida Community College at Jacksonville. All the classes he took worked towards him attaining an associate and bachelor degree in religious studies.
After Bishop Dixon passed in July 2011, Dr. Jones was installed pastor of Faust Temple COGIC in August of 2012 by Bishop Matthew Williams II. After serving two years as pastor, Dr. Jones was awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree from Saint Thomas Christian College and Theological Seminary. He is and has been serving as Vice President of the Jacksonville Northside Ministerial Alliance since February 2015.
